Laser-induced incandescence (LII) measurements in high vacuum conditions

چکیده
We have undertaken a preliminary study of Laser-Induced Incandescence (LII) using carbon black in high vacuum (circa 5×10 mbar). Our aim was to understand the temperature behaviour of carbon nanoparticles under conditions dominated by radiative cooling. We have found that under these conditions the signal from LII is markedly enhanced (over 2,000 times) and that cooling behaviour can be measured into the 100 μs timescale.

Size Distribution Measurement of Candle\'s Soot Nanoparticles by Using Time Resolved Laser Induced Incandescence
Time resolved laser induced incandescence (LII) technique is used to measure size distribution of soot nanoparticles of candle's flame. Pulsed Nd:YAG laser is used to heat nanoparticles to incandescence temperature and the resulting signal is measured. Mass and energy balance equations are numerically solved to calculate temperature of soot particles in low fluence regime. Assuming Plank black ...
متن کاملEffects of repetitive pulsing on multi-kHz planar laser-induced incandescence imaging in laminar and turbulent flames.
Planar laser-induced incandescence (LII) imaging is reported at repetition rates up to 100 kHz using a burst-mode laser system to enable studies of soot formation dynamics in highly turbulent flames. To quantify the accuracy and uncertainty of relative soot volume fraction measurements, the temporal evolution of the LII field in laminar and turbulent flames is examined at various laser operatin...
متن کاملLaser-induced incandescence of free and surface-adsorbed particles
The technique of laser-induced incandescence (LII) has been used to study non-soot, in particular silver particles. Experiments were based on experience with LII soot measurements and a sensitivity analysis regarding the influence of various parameters. Some experimental modifications, e.g. double laser pulse excitation, have been tested. A major extension of the LII technique consists in measu...
متن کاملLaser-induced incandescence and multi-line NO LIF thermometry for soot diagnostics at high pressures
Laser-induced incandescence (LII) is investigated in laminar premixed flat ethylene/air flames at pressures up to 5 bar in a recently constructed high-pressure burner. Time-resolved LII signals were compared with a numerical model considering the influence of pressure on the LII signal decay. Peak particle temperatures after laser heat up were measured by the detection of the LII signal at two ...
متن کاملSoot diagnostics at elevated pressure: Laser-induced incandescence and multi-line NO-LIF thermometry
This article presents tools for soot diagnostics at elevated pressure. Investigations on laser-induced incandescence (LII) are shown in a laminar premixed ethylene/air flame at pressures up to 5 bar in a recently constructed high-pressure burner. The LII signal decay was compared to results of a numerical model taking into account the pressure-dependent heat transfer. Required input parameters ...
